Loan Safety

Verify the actual lender

Identify the bank or NBFC named in the loan documents. Check the lender’s official website and its own app or service-provider links. A familiar logo, advertisement or listing on an app directory is not a guarantee of legitimacy or approval.

Read the cost before accepting

Compare the quoted amount, APR, fees, instalments and total repayment. For applicable retail and MSME term loans, request the RBI Key Facts Statement. Ask for terms in a language you understand.

Protect access to your money

Never share an OTP, UPI PIN, card PIN or banking password to obtain approval. Do not transfer money to an unknown personal account for a guaranteed sanction. Authenticate the official repayment beneficiary with the lender.

Check digital permissions

Read permission and consent requests before using a lending app. Consult the RBI Digital Lending Directions for digital-lending consumer protections. Check the lender’s disclosed cooling-off, cancellation and grievance process.

Keep records and raise concerns

Preserve agreements, statements, payment receipts and complaint references. Raise loan complaints with the lender’s official grievance channel first, and check the applicability of further redressal through RBI Complaint Management System. For suspected fraud, use the appropriate official reporting channel promptly.
